Princethorpians placed at Inter-Schools’ Two Day Equestrian Event

Princethorpe College’s senior riding team picked up second place in the Open class at the fifth Princethorpe-Kingsley Inter-Schools’ Two Day Event held at Offchurch Bury over the weekend of 24 & 25 May, attracting just under two hundred riders from all over the country.

Organised in conjunction with Stoneleigh Riding Club and sponsored by Limemere UK, the competition comprised dressage and show jumping on the Saturday and roads & tracks, steeplechase and cross-country on the Sunday.

Despite driving rain and difficult conditions on the Sunday, seniors Evie Hodgkin, Pippa Beets and Callum Henn put in an extremely good cross country performance giving them the runners up title, with Cokethorpe School taking the senior competition cup home to Witney in Oxfordshire.

Princethorpe’s Callum Henn has recently been picked to represent Great Britain in the Tetrathlon. Callum was one of four selected from the top fifty ranked senior tetrathletes in the UK, during a recent training course held at Millfield School.

Hannah Logue from Year 9 also took 8th place in the Novice competition. Other Princethorpians riding were Hayley Benton, Katherine Brett, Emma Fletcher, Tom Fletcher, Hannah Pugh & Tom Wyatt.

Princethorpians ride high on dressage and jumping successes

Year 8 pupil Tom Wyatt scooped the Fr Mac Trophy for the best boy dressage score at the Princethorpe-Kingsley Dressage & Show Jumping event held at Princethorpe on Saturday & Sunday 19 & 20 April. Eleven classes were represented by some one-hundred-and-ninety-seven riders from counties all around central England. Organisers Alex Darkes and Sue Jessett said that they had been delighted with the fourth joint event, “Despite windy and bitterly cold conditions on Saturday and a fair downpour overnight we had a superb weekend,” said Darkes. "It has been marvellous over the last twenty-four hours to receive so many compliments from competitors saying that they’ll be back next year.”

Sue Jessett was delighted with Kingsley’s show jumping successes, “Despite being just pipped by King’s High, the two Kingsley teams picked up 2nd and 3rd places in the senior show jumping, with which we were delighted and stalwart Anna Green got top prize for the best individual in the 3’0” class.”

Princethorpe highlights included Evie Hodgkin coming first in Class 8 dressage, Emma Fletcher 2nd in the 3’0” Combined Training and Katherine Brett 4th in the 2’6” Combined Training.

Junior Show Jumping winners were Twycross House and Senior Jumping winners were King’s High School. Team Dressage accolades went to The Carrdus and Leicester Grammar School.
