Princethorpe College cyclist Rob Mackenzie has taken a silver medal in the Imperial Winter Racing Series at Hillingdon, London. The fifteen year old who is currently studying for his GCSEs was delighted with his achievement. The series of 5 thirty minute races took place over January and February with each rider accruing points for their position in each race. Mackenzie was lying third in the Under 16 Youth category as he entered the final event last Saturday.

A tough race saw him vying for position against British Development Squad riders but Mackenzie’s hard work in training paid off with second place and a silver overall.

The Year 11 student from Dunchurch has only recently joined Solihull Cycling Club. A former recreational cyclist he is now taking his training seriously undertaking a 2 hour turbo session each night in his garage with extended endurance road training at the weekend.

‘Having come second in this National event against such accomplished riders I now want to build on this and ride even faster.’ commented Rob. He plans to race in further National Circuit Series later this year with a possible tour of the Isle of Man in April.
