Frequently Asked Questions

Which Secondary Schools do your pupils go to?
Following the merger with Princethorpe College in 2001, an increasing number of our pupils go to Princethorpe, however it is our duty to prepare our pupils for the range of Independent Senior School exams, and your choice as parents as to which schools the children should be entered for.

If we want our child to go to Princethorpe, what are the benefits to gain of coming to Crackley Hall?
All pupils who come to Crackley have to undertake the entrance exam to Princethorpe, but by the time they have reached Year 6 we know them very well. The Headmaster of Princethorpe makes time to come and work alongside the Year 6 teacher, so he can get to know the children as well. As Head of the Junior School of the Foundation, I am invited to sit on the Admissions Panel for entry into Princethorpe and due to my knowledge of the children I am able to contribute.

What are your SATs results like?
The SATs results for Key Stage 2 can be downloaded from the News and Events part of this website.  They demonstrate that year on year we are achieveing well above the National and Local Authority averages, even though we support a good number of pupils with Learning Needs.

We are not Catholics, does that matter?
Not at all, we are a Catholic School and follow the curriculum as agreed by the Dioceses, but we have a very ecumenical approach to all our pupils. We celebrate and enjoy the differences of other religions, while also looking for the similarities.

What level of Sport do you have here?
We undertake nine different sporting activities per year and we use the gym, the courts and the sports field across the road. Team building skills are a very important part of a child’s life and the business world has said that the ability to understand what being a member of a team is about, as well as confidence, is just as important as Maths and English, hence Sport and Music are key features of school life.

What does discipline look like at your school?
We do have a discipline policy within school but rarely have to use it. The behaviour of the children is implicit within the ethos and values of the school. The pupils know what is expected and are very quickly aware when they have behaved inappropriately. We are much more interested in teaching them about the consequences of their actions.

The Pastoral life of the school is an extremely important one, the Head’s personal philosophy of education is that 'to learn effectively the children need to be happy', this is why we pay as much attention to that part of school life as we do to the academic performance.
