Sixth form students at Princethorpe College undertook an incredible fund raising walking challenge during their Easter Holiday. Twenty one pupils took part in the Coventry Way walk – an off road course of forty miles taking in many of the area’s most beautiful scenic spots. The aim was to continue to raise money for the charity Mary’s Meals – an organisation that provides food and education for hundreds of thousands of impoverished and orphaned children around the world.
Princethorpe College hopes to raise a target sum of £6000 by the end of 2010 so they can fund the total cost of providing Mary’s Meals to children in a school in Liberia for an entire year. So far the College has raised over £1500.
Organiser of the fund raising initiative and R.S teacher Mr Rod Isaacs commented,
‘This Coventry Way Walk really puts our students in a challenging situation. Forty miles is an incredibly long way. Ten of our students made the full distance with a further five walking for more than 34 miles. This is an event that really brings to the fore the ethos of Princethorpe College as staff and students pull together to raise money to improve the life chances of children around the world.’
The College will continue to organise fund raising initiatives throughout the year.
