Crackley Girls' U11 Hockey Team Make Visible Improvements At Princethorpe Junior Festival
Six visiting primary schools participated in Princethorpe College’s Junior Hockey Festival on Monday 19 September. This popular, annual event now in its thirteenth year kick starts a busy season of sport for the Foundation. A more competitive Tournament involving Crackley Hall, The Crescent, Milverton and The Croft schools ran alongside the Festival where Our Lady’s and The Revel were given first class coaching from Princethorpe staff and senior players before they enjoyed a match.
Crackley Hall’s team (many of whom attended Legends Hockey Camp over the summer) showed what fighting potential they have. Their vigorous warm up reflected sheer exuberance despite the rain with balls flying and sticks a-clattering. Mrs Vaughan and Miss Jones rallied round the girls who fizzed with excitement at this, their first tournament. “It was clear to see that in each game the girls just got better and better,” explained Mrs Vaughan. “In the first game against The Crescent, they had most possession but failed to get the ball into the D. When Crescent managed to gain ground they scored. The same happened against The Croft with just one goal against Crackley. By the time they had their final match against Milverton they were more into the swing of the game and passed the ball efficiently. Marisa and Lara were the goal scorers giving Crackley a 3-0 win.”
After the experience, Crackley players were sanguine about the experience with Molly commenting, “We need to practise moving the ball more quickly between us. But for a first tournament, we did really well.”
The overall tournament scores were revealed with The Crescent 1st, The Croft 2nd, Crackley Hall 3rd and Milverton 4th.
Crackley Hall’s U11 Tournament team were: Chloe O’Carroll-Bailey, Molly McGrory, Lara Convey, Marisa Lucas, Abi Gillard, Julia Loftus, Emily Hennegan and Emilie Maugis-Gonzalez
