Crackley U9s Shine at ISA Midlands Tag Rugby Tournament
Crackley's talented U9 'A' & 'B' Rugby players made the hour long journey to Stafford Grammar to contest the ISA Midlands U9 Tag Rugby Tournament on Tuesday 14 March. Hopes were high as each team made their way to their allotted pitches for the group stages. The Chronicle is delighted to report that the 'A' team won all but one of their group games, losing by just two tries in their final match against St. Peter's, whilst the 'B' team took the honors in two games and where sadly just beaten in the remaining three.
With the group stages dispatched, Crackley's 'A' team were asked to prepare for the knockout stages of the tournament. This began with a tricky match against last year's returning winners, Dixie Grammar. In Rugby parlance, you may describe the encounter that discovered the eventual winners as a ‘bruising encounter’, as the final score of 4 - 4 told only half the story. Crackley 'A' played their hearts out in this game, eventually conceding the victory courtesy of a 'sudden death' try awarded to Dixie. And so, our boys lined up for the 3 / 4 place final against a very talent Old Vicarage side.
Just 14 short minutes separated each side from a medal and Crackley gave it everything, working hard as a team after a long day on the field. As we know, there can be only one winner, and Tuesday’s tournament saw Crackley's name entered in the fourth-place slot within ISA records. Coach Mr. Harris summed up the feeling, "I asked our boys for width and space, two key points of Rugby that can make a real difference on the pitch. Our boys applied this throughout the day, with my highlight being a try scored started in our own half and passed the length of the pitch before being touched down in the corner by Sebastian Owen."
Well done boys, both teams worked hard, achieving great results on the day. Your coaches are so proud of you. Players of the tournament were Dylan Willams and Daniel McCullough for the 'B' Team and Sebastian Owen for the 'A' Team.
