Number Day Was A Whole Lot Of Fantastic Financial Fun

06 Feb

On Thursday 5 February, we celebrated Number Day here at Crackley Hall School with a focus on Financial Literacy, because understanding money is an important life skill that begins in primary school.

Through fun, age-appropriate activities, pupils explored ideas such as recognising coins, making simple spending choices, saving and understanding the difference between needs and wants. Such activities not only make maths meaningful for the children but also help build confidence, problem solving skills and good habits for the future.

Junior 6 explored earning money and the impact of taxes on earnings, they also studied what interest is and how it can affect savings and borrowing. Junior 5 learned about budgeting and took part in a supermarket sweep or found out about payment models and common online scams while Junior 4 watched a fascinating clip on influencers and advertising which led on to some interesting discussions. For Junior 3, it was back to basics and how to keep track of spending and Junior 2 reflected on saving money versus spending. Junior 1 went shopping, collecting their money from the bank and then buying items from their classroom shop. Reception spent some time exploring money and how it’s very sensible to save some alongside enjoying spending it! Nursery even joined in the fun with their own number challenges across their age groups.

Our whole school Number Day was a great way to make learning about numbers interesting and enjoyable as well allowing pupils to apply their maths knowledge in the real world. As always, Number Day here at Crackley Hall was a whole lot of fantastic, financial fun.
