Crackley Welcomed Performance Poet Ian Bland
On Friday 6 March, the school welcomed children’s performance poet Ian Bland to Crackley Hall for a day full of creative challenge and fun.
Our 'Poetry & Pyjamas Day' started with a special assembly where the children enjoyed hearing Ian perform some of his fabulous poems. They included action poems and repeating poems where pupils joined in the performance. They heard wonders such as The Dinner Lady Dance, I’ll Never Fall In Love Again, Will You Be Mine and She's A Cowboy Teacher.
Ian then worked with the classes in turn, from Reception up to Year 6, having fun with poetry writing and poetry performance. Together with the teachers, Ian chose poems from each class to be performed at an afternoon poetry showcase. During the day, pupils also enjoyed hot chocolate and marshmallows as a treat, courtesy of the PTA.
Poems and stories open minds, spark imaginations and inspire lifelong learning and the pupils here at Crackley Hall made the most of the opportunity to create and celebrate poetry. Next week, some of the classes will be building on today’s workshops, reflecting on and writing yet more poetry.
Huge thanks to Ian Bland for visiting us. If you would like to listen to him performing his poetry then visit his website here.
