Musicians Enjoy Foundation Orchestral Workshop

25 Feb

Talented young musicians from across the Foundation came together on Tuesday 24 February for a Foundation Orchestra Workshop.

Designed to develop and stretch music and performance skills, pupils worked under the guidance of Princethorpe’s Director of Music, Gil Cowlishaw, and Crescent School’s Head of Music, Jo Westlake, to prepare and rehearse a mixture of pieces ready for a short afternoon performance for parents.

The workshop took place in Princethorpe’s Clarkson Theatre with over 50 pupils from as young as Year 3 up to the Lower Sixth relishing the opportunity to make music together in a big group. The mass orchestra worked hard to prepare four challenging pieces, some familiar, some completely new. All of the music testing the players’ technical and music-reading ability.

This was the first time the Foundation’s orchestras have worked together in person, although the Foundation’s musicians have previously performed together online thanks to the magic of technology during the COVID pandemic.

The day was a great opportunity for everyone, stretching and developing pupils’ musical skills in an ensemble environment. A huge thank you to Princethorpe College for welcoming us so warmly; our pupils really enjoyed taking on the challenge of the day.

You can watch a clip of the orchestra performing on our social platforms here.
