On Wednesday 4 March, Crackley Hall's U11 Boys Football team travelled to Loughborough Grammar School for the ISFA U11 Midlands Football Tournament.
Taking part were nine teams from across the Midlands hoping to progress to the national finals.
The tournament format was just one league, so the boys played eight consecutive matches. They finished the day with three wins, against Wellingborough 1-0, Kitebrook Prep 1-0 and Leicester Grammar 1-0; three draws, with Solihull 0-0, Bedford Modern 0-0 and The Croft 1-1; and two losses, Fairfield Prep 0-1 and Swanbourne House (the eventual winners) 0-5. A special mention goes to Will H, who really helped the team by making many excellent saves, especially as everyone became increasingly tired during the latter stages of the competition.
Head of Games, Rich Stedeford, said, “The whole team were excellent, playing superb football and creating many chances to score. They came up against some excellent goalkeepers and with some improved composure in front of goal, would have scored more goals. The most impressive part of their performance was the quick 1-2 touch passing, which opposition teams found difficult to defend.”
Crackley Hall’s boys can also take plaudits for the best goal of the day with an opposition coach commenting, “That’s the best goal I’ve seen in any U11 football match!”
Mr Stedeford continued, “The boys should be proud of themselves. They finished joint third on points but officially fifth due to goal difference. They were just one point away from second place, they missed a medal by such a small margin.”
